How did you meet Sadia, what did you think?
I met Sadia on a consulting assignment. She kept trying set me up with this Jewish girl at work, but Sadia kept cracking up at my jokes and we constantly talked. I knew she liked me when she pretended not to know how to open up a file in Photoshop. I had walked all the way down the hall to answer her Photoshop question she called me about and it was the easiest, quickest lesson ever, just file then open. I said “that is it?” she said “Yea” and just smiled up at me. Ok….., she likes me. Then she invites me to a club called Spotlight and there was only one seat left in this circular seating pattern of seats amongst her friends so I sit down in it and pull her on my lab. Game over.
Have a funny Sadia story?
Sadia constantly misplaces her glasses. One time she lost it in our 50 square-foot apartment. They were under the La-Z-Boy we had, but not in between the cushion, like under the actual seat by the metal circular ring it sits on. A week later, she then proceeds to lose them again in another place a few days later but I find them. However, instead of telling her I did, I waited for her to go to the front of the apartment, out of her sight of me, and I put the glasses under the La-Z-Boy in the exact same spot. I wait for her to walk in and I pretend to look some more and I point and gasp “Sadia! Look!”. I keep a shocked/spooked look face on and look at her. Her face does the same for like 3.5 seconds and then all of a sudden, her body convulses and she springs up into the air to try to climb away from the apartment glasses ghost! Another funny story, a month of being together, she asks to help with spaghetti and marinara I had basically finished. I say sure and she takes the spoon and starts to stir. In no less than six seconds, a wad of spaghetti and sauce hits parent’s kitchen wall!
What do you like to tease Sadia about?
Her time management, her talking out loud the second I enter the room as her way to love and annoy me, her inability to answer your question if she is reading, her leaving little scraps of food for future ant families in our house, her scoundrel level expert pivoting to bend the truth when she is caught in a lie, her eating cookies as dinner, her living in a different realm in her mind and puzzlement when I tell her I told her something but it’s the first time she is hearing it, her newfound obsession with the young adult fiction books, her watching the summer I turned pretty and her thinking that owning and taking care of our house is easy.
What is your favorite thing about Sadia?
It’s the early days, Sadia came over to my grandparent’s place to have dinner. They knew about her but never met. We have a nice casual fun meal and then have to leave. Sadia offers to help clear the table and my grandparent’s insist she doesn’t so she gets up, goes behind my grandfather, puts her hands on his shoulders and gives him a kiss on his cheek. Stunned/grinning/loved, he stares at me a with a “this, this is the one” look! I’ll never forget it. That same love she has loads up, years later Sadia becomes an aunt (even a token one to her friend’s kids) and swoops them up in her arms and rocks them. She puts her cheek up to their cheeks and you’ll see them love-stricken-frozen, like the look and love my grandfather gave. Other favorites, is her sense of humor, to receive and give, her intellect, her style, her constant cheerfulness, and her physical beauty (worthy of only mine). Last, her reliability. She’s just so reliable, you can count on her to listen and give good practical advice.
What else do you want to say about/to Sadia? (Happy birthday message... well wishes... deep thoughts??)
Happy 40th birthday to my wife, Jake’s mom, my best friend who, my parent’s daughter in law, my sister’s 3rd best friend (Michael is 4th), my nieces and nephews favorite aunt! If not for you dragging me kicking and screaming through all my major life milestones, getting married, buying a house and having a kid named Jake, would have never happened. I’m grateful and blessed for what you have made me into and given to me, my sister and my parent’s lives. What an upgrade we have all become and have, having you. It’s a privilege to take care of you who takes care of everyone. I love you and I’ll stop writing because I’m ugly crying now!
